The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet and the prevention of disease.
Thomas A. Edison
"Unless we put medical freedom into the Constitution, the time will come when medicine will organize into an undercover dictatorship to restrict the art of healing to one class of Men and deny equal privileges to others; the Constitution of the Republic should make a Special privilege for medical freedoms as well as religious freedom." Those are the words of Dr. Benjamin Rush, noted physician, medical professor, an early surgeon general to all Continental armies and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.

Why did my vet recommend acidophilus for my cat during cancer treatment?
This is crazy!! Have you ever heard a doctor recommend acidophilus to
a person undergoing chemo? Yet veterinarians do so for cats. Chemo
works by targeting the fastest replicating cells in the body: cancer
cells along with hair follicles and the epithelial membrane lining the
digestive tract. If you were to flatten out your small intestine and
villi it would be the size of a football field. The digestive tract sloughs
off old cells just like your skin. This become part of the fiber
in the stool. If lining of your digestive is not regenerating rapidly
it can result in malnutrition, nausea and constipation. Probiotics help
maintain proper pH, nutrition, bowel function and support the immune
Article - Acidophilus for Cats
Acidophilus is a bacteria found in fermented foods such as yogurt. It’s
also present in supplements and is available in powdered form.
Acidophilus is a supplement that’s given to cats to maintain good
digestive health. It helps to treat diarrhea, flatulence or smelly
Acidophilus is generally prescribed by veterinarians to
treat cats with upset stomachs. Pets with cancer, suffering from side
effects of chemotherapy also benefit from acidophilus. The supplement or
powder duplicates the action of the acidophilus bacteria and protects
the cat from harmful bacteria and parasites by releasing hydrogen
peroxide that’s toxic to such organisms. Research has proven that
acidophilus is beneficial to the health of healthy cats as well as
It helps by altering the bacterial balance in the
microflora of the gastrointestinal tract, thus increasing the
effectiveness of white blood cells and decreasing the susceptibility of
red blood cells to osmotic pressure. Acidophilus also enhances the
immune systems of cats and improves the efficiency of their digestive
Are Nightshade Vegetables Linked to Inflammation?
diets designed for conditions such as arthritis, autoimmune diseases
and gout, often suggest avoiding nightshades. Why is this? It turns out
that some of the naturally-occurring chemicals in nightshades may have
harmful effects on the body.
Which vegetables are nightshades?
are any vegetable that belongs to the plant family Solanaceae. There
are over 2700 different species of plants in the nightshade family, but
most of them are not eaten and some are even toxic.
The nightshades that are commonly eaten are:
- Potatoes (this does not include yams and sweet potatoes)
- Peppers (includes bell peppers, hot peppers, paprika, pimentos, etc., but does not include the spice black pepper)
- Ground cherries
- Goji berries
How can they cause inflammation?
vegetables contain various natural chemical compounds that can promote
inflammation and other negative health effects.
they do not react the same for all people. Some people appear to be
unaffected by eating this family of vegetables. Whereas, if someone is
already diagnosed with an inflammatory condition, it seems consuming
nightshades can make the condition worse.
Childers who conducted a 20-year study on the connection between
nightshades and arthritis, concluded that 74 to 90 percent of people who
ache or hurt, regardless of their diagnosis, have a sensitivity to
nightshades. These are some the main compounds in nightshades that may be behind the problems.
There are different types of alkaloids found in different nightshade vegetables, such as:
- Solanine in all nightshades, especially potatoes and eggplants
- Tomatine in tomatoes
- Capsaicin in peppers
in particular is highest in potatoes that have turned green or started
to sprout. Tobacco is also part of the Solanaceae family, and nicotine
is another type of alkaloid. The addictive effect of some alkaloids is
considered a possible reason behind addictive behaviors towards certain
The alkaloids in
nightshades have been shown to inhibit the enzyme cholinesterase, which
helps regulate muscle flexibility. The impairment of cholinesterase may
explain how the buildup of alkaloids in the body can result in muscle
spasm, aches, pains, inflammation and stiffness.
function of cholinesterase is to break down neurotransmitters like
acetylcholine. Acetylcholine stimulates nerves, muscles and glands to
function properly. But high levels of acetylcholine will cause
overstimulation, and toxic levels have been shown to lead to nervous
system problems including anxiety, depression, behavioral disturbances
and cognitive issues.
is a hormone that triggers the body to absorb calcium from what you

much calcium in the blood and can lead to atherosclerosis by depositing
calcium in the blood vessels.
are also high in lectins. This substance is
produced by plants as natural pesticides. Research is showing it may
also have the potential to contribute to various adverse health effects,
including gut inflammation and gastrointestinal damage.
molecules are part of all cell membranes in the body. Lectins are able
to interact with cholesterol molecules and form a pore-like structure.
This creates tiny holes in the cell membranes.
When lectins move through your digestive tract, there is the danger of
creating cellular holes in the lining of the gut, which can allow a
variety of substances found in the gut to enter the wrong cells or get
into the blood stream. This is also known as leaky gut.
Some research has suggested that lectins
could contribute to food intolerance also inflammatory and autoimmune
disorders, such as rheumatoid arthritis.
What can you do about it?
traditional and modern diets, such as macrobiotic and paleo,
recommend either limiting your intake of nightshades or eliminating
them altogether. Not
everyone is sensitive to nightshades, and some people may only be
sensitive to one or two members of the family. If you suspect you might
be sensitive, it’s best to try a short-term elimination diet.
by eliminating all nightshades for a week or two. This includes all the
obvious vegetables, as well as any spices that contain paprika, cayenne
or other hot peppers. Also watch out for potato starch used as a
thickener, especially in gluten-free products. Try to avoid tobacco smoke.
reintroduce one type of nightshade, such as tomatoes. Give each new
vegetable four days to see if it causes any symptoms. Do this with each
variety of nightshade one at a time and take note of how, or if, you
react. Be sure to read ingredient labels each time you buy a pre- prepared or processed food as the ingredients can change by the season or location of manufacture. Green peppers in ranch salad dressing are an example.
A client had
problems with wrist inflammation some years ago. He thought he was
developing carpal tunnel syndrome due to jobs he had in the past that
involved heavy, repetitive lifting. The strange thing was that his wrist
pain would flare up sometimes, and other times his wrists felt alright.
He tried cutting nightshades completely out of his diet for two weeks.
Within one week, any pain in his wrists had completely stopped. To this
day, his wrists are fine as long as he avoids nightshades. But if he ever
eats any, by the next day his wrists will start to hurt again.
What can you eat instead?
you find out that you are sensitive to one or all of the nightshades,
your first reaction might be panic. It seems like the majority of modern
foods contain either potatoes, tomatoes or peppers. What’s left if you
cut these out?
by figuring out how I could place tomato sauce. After some
experimentation, I discovered apple sauce is actually a great
replacement. It makes an excellent pasta sauce and goes well in soups,
stews and anywhere else you would use tomato sauce.
there are many sauces you can explore beyond tomato sauce. An
Indian-style spinach and coconut milk sauce has become a staple in my
home for serving on pasta, grains and spaghetti squash. A blend of carrots and beets for its red hue make a nice sauce.
and other root vegetables replace potatoes well. I find they also have
more flavor and nutrients. Sweet potato fries are usually available in grocery
stores and restaurants instead of potato French fries.
are also lots of great condiments beyond ketchup. Relish, mustard,
sauerkraut, mayonnaise and other toppings and sauces all go great on
burgers and wherever you would use ketchup.

Why do I always regain any weight I manage to lose while dieting.
Your body has a very strong self preservation mode. Our air, water and food are full of toxins. GMO's, fluoride, chlorine, pesticides, preservatives, sugars, high corn syrup fructose, artificial sweeteners, artificial colors and flavors. If your liver is over burdened your body will try to protect you by buffering the toxicity by hiding the poisons in fat cells.
When you diet and burn off some stored fat you also release stored poisons. If your liver can still not process the poisons it will again build fats cell to hide the toxins. To break this vicious cycle you must help detox your liver. Your liver repairs and regenerates best while you sleep. It is most effective between the hours of 10pm to 2am. Try to get 7-9 hours of sleep each night.
Probiotics - Keep your digestive tract moving to flush toxins. Two or more good bowel movements a day is considered healthy. Use a high billion cell count supplement of friendly bacteria like acidophilus with
other probiotic. Good bacteria are important inhabitants of your digestive
and respiratory tracts. Its good benefits are many and varied. Good
bacteria is the core of your immune system. They will keep disease causing pathogens under control by creating hydrogen peroxide. It is
essential to promote healthy bowel function. It helps maintain the proper pH in your digestive tract. It helps to regenerate the epithelial cells lining the intestines. Acidophilus is present in a variety of fermented foods, including yogurt, kefir, sauerkraut, kimchi and miso.
Milk thistle -The herb silymarin is used to improve liver function by keeping toxic substances from binding to liver cells. Milk thistle has been used medicinally for over 2,000 years, most commonly for the treatment of liver and gallbladder disorders. Many hospitals keep it in the emergency room to protect damaged livers. http://www.milkthistle.com/
Lipotropic Complex - Nutritive support for healthy liver function to help catabolize and metabolize lipids and fats. Lipotropic nutrients include choline, methionine and betaine, which mobilize the flow of fats away from the liver, out through the large intestine, and thereby decrease fatty deposits. Lipotropics are used to treat gallbladder problems and fatty liver. http://www.vitacost.com/productResults.aspx?N=0&ss=1&Ntt=Lipotropic
Betaine - The technical name for betaine is trimethylglycine (TMG). Glycine is key element of the of the detoxification machinery. By adding a little TMG to your daily supplement program you’re going to be helping your liver eliminate and process of toxins. It is commonly found as Betaine HCl (hydrochloric acid), a digestive aid. Betaine can help protect against harmful fatty deposits in the liver. These deposits can be caused by alcohol abuse, obesity, diabetes, medications and other causes. Take Hydrochloric acid with meals only. http://pharmacistben.com/health/benefits-of-betaine-hcl/
Vitamin D - 4000-20,000 iu daily has been found to be a safe range. Most insurance companies cover the cost of testing your Vitamin D levels. Researchers found that the patients who had low vitamin D levels were 1.5 times more likely than their counterparts to have fatty liver problems. Additionally, vitamin D levels continued to decrease as the liver problems became more advanced. The authors suggested that vitamin D may play a role in preventing the fat accumulation in the liver
R-Alpha Lipoic Acid - 300-600mg daily has been shown to be safe even if taken long term. Lipoic acid is useful since it is an chemical detoxifying antioxidant. Its most beneficial functions is enhancing the effects of other essential antioxidants by recycling them including Vitamins C and E along with glutathione, which is vital to a healthy liver and improves insulin resistance. If you are diabetic start with a lower dose of 50mg a day. Lipoic acid needs to be used with caution when already taking blood sugar medications as it can lower blood sugar levels.
Turmeric - Turmeric is recognized as being beneficial in promoting liver health by helping to remove cholesterol from the liver. It helps the body to flush out toxins in a much easier and in efficient way. Turmeric is known to increase the secretion of bile thus improving digestion. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric. The usefulness of curcumin in fighting fatty liver problems is born out by public health observers in India. Up to 38% of the people in north India carry a gene that predisposes them to fatty liver disease. Far fewer than 38% of this population, however, actually develop health problems related to fatty liver disease. This could be due to the popularity of curcumin-rich curries in the Indian diet. http://www.turmericforhealth.com/turmeric-benefits/benefits-of-turmeric-for-liver. http://turmericsgold.com/conditions/curcumin-for-fatty-liver-disease/
NAC - N-Acetyl-cysteine commonly comes in 600mg supplement form. Studies show if it is used twice daily on an empty stomach it can help to improve overall health and immunity. If only one dose is being taken, try to take it at night time and on an empty stomach. Reduces fatigue and protects the liver. N-Acetyl-cysteine acts to augment the glutathione reserves in the body. It is beneficial in the treatment of a toxic liver.
Multi Vitamin-Mineral - To provide a basis for good nutrition as nothing works by itself.
Magnesium - 1000mg/400mg nightly conforms to the RDA. It is important to take a balance of
calcium and magnesium for them to work properly in the body. I personally take Magnesium 1000mg w/ Calcium 500mg to relax. They absorb
best when taken before bed. They help to relax your muscles and
sleep better. Magnesium deficiency is considered as a potential risk
factor for liver problems because magnesium deficiency
is associated with type 2 diabetes. Because calcium interferes with the
absorption of iron, which can accumulate in the liver, calcium
indirectly affects the liver.
Antioxidants - ACES+ zinc - Vit A, C, E d-alpha with Selenium and Zinc
Life style changes -
Exercise daily to improve insulin resistance. This will help you burn
carbohydrates and reduce the creation of fat for storage. Drink 48-120oz
of chemical free water each day based on physical activity and
temperature. Increase your intake of good fats (Essential Fatty Acids) like fish oil (omega 3),
evening primrose oil, borage oil, black currant oil and flax oil. Try to take three capsules of EFA with a large glass of water before each meal. Eat olives, grass fed butter, coconut,
sesame or sunflower oil, nuts, avocados and high cacao dark chocolate. You may eat
grass fed meat, poultry, eggs, low carb vegetables, fish and seafood and limited fruits. Use
spices liberally. Sweeten food or drinks with stevia or
luo han guo
extract (Monk Fruit) like “Lakanto®”. Reduce intake of trans fats (
hydrogenated fat) like margarine and fried foods. Reducing carbohydrate
intake ( not eating white foods especially dairy except cauliflower) will help to achieve
ideal body weight. Avoid monosodium glutamate (MSG), high fructose corn
syrup, sugar, artificial sweeteners, processed foods and flours.
Are there any nutritional suggestions for the lead poisoned kids in Flint, MI
There's some evidence that modified citrus pectin
may help treat lead poisoning in children. In a 2008 study published in
Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, researchers assigned a
group of children with lead toxicity to 28 days of treatment with
modified citrus pectin.
Study results revealed that modified citrus pectin produced a "dramatic decrease" in blood levels of lead.
According to the study's authors, modified citrus pectin appears to treat lead
poisoning by acting as a heavy metal-chelating agent (a substance that
binds to heavy metals and then clears them from the bloodstream).
Modified citrus pectin is a substance sold in dietary supplement
form. It contains a form of pectin (a type of carbohydrate consisting of
sugar molecules) that has been chemically altered to improve its
absorption in the human digestive tract. Sourced from the pulp and peel
of citrus fruits, modified citrus pectin is said to offer a variety of
health benefits. Pectin is used as a thickening agent, and could be
considered one of the most natural types around. The first version of
this substance available for purchase was derived from apples, which
have a high amount of it.
Caveats (warnings over the use of fiber from fruit.)
Due to a lack of research, little is known about the safety of
long-term or regular use of modified citrus pectin. However, there's
some concern that modified citrus pectin may trigger certain side
effects (including upset stomach
In addition, modified citrus pectin may cause allergic reactions in people allergic to citrus fruits.

I have tried many nutrition programs but still have not found my answer to living an energetic life. Do you have any suggestions?
I have been working with a program called "The Body Code". It can help you build the correct nutrition program. It also involves removing blockages in the flow of energy in the body. The author, Dr. Bradley Nelson, started with "The Emotion Code" and now he has evolved it into an overall "Body Code" program. He has great success in bringing balance to the body. The Chinese Chi and the Ayurveda Prana work with the energy network of the body. An example is acupuncture energy balance helps the body. These types of medicine are some oldest medical systems in the world. Ayurveda originated in India more than 3,000 years ago.
I do not like being sociable in the winter. It takes too much energy. Any ideas to fight my "cold " attitude?
Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that occurs when there is a change in seasons. The winter time blues can start as soon as we start to lose daylight hours. SAD begins and ends at about the same times every year. Onset of SAD is usually between 18 and 30 years of age. You may sleep too much, have little energy, and may also feel depressed. Other feelings are desiring to be left alone, crying spells, irritability, trouble concentrating, body aches, loss of sex drive, poor sleep, or overeating, Though symptoms can be severe, they usually clear up as winter passes. To help relive the symptoms bright light therapy is effective. When you sit near the front of a light box with your eyes open but not staring at the light source for 30–60 minutes you may correct the shift in your “biological internal clock” or circadian rhythm, and improve your serotonin cycle. Alaska Northern Lights was started by Neil Wagner in 1993 in Alaska. He was looking for an answer to his wife's debilitating health problems and found that light therapy relieved many symptoms, including depression and lethargy. Neil designed and manufactured the original light box which is still being sold today, Click here fore more information
What book would you suggest concerning menopause?
I saw Dr. John Lee speak about his book "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Menopause" when he came to Grand Rapids. It has helped to educate generations of women about natural hormones. Common concerns of menopausal women are gaining weight, sleep problems, mood swings, depression and anxiety. If you had monthly migraine headaches they can worsen. Dr. Lee stressed the importance of using natural hormones, particularly progesterone, that match what a woman's body makes naturally. Recent studies suggest that the addition of natural progesterone in a cyclic manner does not increase breast cancer risk.
Natural or bioidentical hormones match the molecular structure of a natural hormone and are identical to the hormones made by your body. This is an important factor because the hormones typically handed out by your doctor are not. They are completely man-made and are found nowhere in nature. Notably Premarin is created from the urine of pregnant mares. Patented medications can not match nature. Patent medicines contain progestins (synthetic progesterone). They are required to be different to obtain a patent. You may have seen the recent commercials for Premarin and heard all of the side effects listed.

I will be very blunt here.
How do you flush scrap out of your toilet? WATER
This article was approved by my Lymph Elimination Therapist.
It is important to take
actions on a daily basis to clear your lymph system. These include exercise and drinking water. The lymph system
is the sewer system for the body. The lymphatic system is composed
of tonsils, thymus, bone marrow, spleen, tissues, nodes (over 600)
and fluids that run throughout most of your body just like your blood
vessels do. There are three crucial differences between the lymphatic system
and your circulatory system. One is that the lymphatic system does not have
a heart (pump) to move it throughout the body. Second is our body
has three times more lymph fluid than blood. This is why consistent
daily exercise and hydration (drinking water) are crucial to keep the
lymphatic system and lymph nodes clear and healthy. Three, the lymph
produces most of our white cells for the immune system.
If your lymphatic system
is congested, or lymph nodes are swollen this will result in
different aches and pains. If you have had strep throat you will remember the doctor examining the sore lumps on your neck. Your joints could have pain or feel weak,
your immune system is compromised dramatically because your immune
system works directly with your lymphatic system. Your liver and
kidneys become toxic because they aren’t draining toxins and
chemicals from the lymphatic system to excrete them from the body as
it should be. This can lead to weight gain, digestive disorders,
being sick more often, hormonal imbalances, poor circulation, areas
of the skin become bloated with fluid because it is not being drained
and much more. The following actions can help move the lymph system.
There are reasons your
lymph system may be sluggish that I have not seen on any of the many
sites I visited while researching the lymphatic system. If you are
not having two or three bowel movements a day, urinating frequently or sweating there is no way for
toxins to completely leave your body. Something in means something out. A
properly functioning digestive tract needs water, probiotics
(acidophilus, bifidus), magnesium with your calcium and water. This
is a must for a healthy body!!!!!!!
Exercise moves the
lymphatic system and lymph fluids and circulates them to your liver
and kidneys to be filtered and excreted from the body. You should
stretch and walk or engage in workouts every single day. Flex your
joints first thing in the morning before you even get out of bed by
moving your ankles forward and back. If you have pain and swelling
you must clear the lymph but move faster than a slow walk every
single day to get the lymphatic system moving. My therapist stresses that people who strenuously work out, exercise vigorously, or participate in demanding sports need to flush the lymph system with water and gentle massage to keep the nodes clear of poisons.
The lymphatic system is
rich in water and if you’re dehydrated the entire system will be
holding onto water for dear life. Do your fingers seem swollen, your
rings do not fit right? Do you feel spongy? You need new water to
filter the lymphatic system, and to help excrete and remove chemicals
and toxins through your liver and kidneys. A good rule of thumb is to
drink 50% of your body weight in ounces of pure, chemical free water
each day. Do not use distilled water. It will steal necessary
minerals from your tissues. Add trace minerals and electrolytes to
your water. Example: If you weigh 100 pounds, drink 50 ounces daily.
Breathing does so much
for your body, from calming your heart and nervous system to changing
brainwaves and even helps the lymphatic system drain and stay
healthy. By taking deep breathes in through your nose and out through
your mouth you’re giving your body more oxygen to work with. Oxygen
and Hydration are two essential parts to keeping the lymphatic system
clear of impurities. Exercise also helps you breathe deeply by
exerting energy so exercise gives you multiple lymphatic draining
Rebounding exercise is simply
flexing on a small trampoline up and down. It doesn’t take much
energy. Do not even let your feet leave the mat. Stretch your arms
out over your head. It is a light workout that gets your heart rate
and breathing up. It uses the force of gravity to move your lymphatic
system and to detoxify cells by going in an up and down motion. Even
bouncing on the edge of you bed before you get out of bed is a good
start. Why are the kids always jumping on the bed? It makes them feel
good. This is a great exercise for lymphatic drainage as well as
overall health, strength and well-being. If someone is sedentary in a
wheel chair, or bed-ridden you can help them rebound. Place their
feet on the mat and flex(bounce gently) on the mat for them. Improved
circulation will improve their strength. Horseback riding, swimming,
kundalini yoga, walking, bike rides,
stairs, light weights, and playing catch are good movement exercises
when done in moderation. Even using a rocking chair will move the
Massage works by
physically moving pressure along your lymphatic network. Always
massage toward the main drain at the base of your throat toward the heart. Deep tissue
massage will work to move the lymphatic tissue to drain but will
result in soreness and discomfort as poisons are released. Drink lots
of water to dilute and detox the released poisons. Any form of
massage is beneficial so start gentle. Massage is a way to squeeze
the lymphatic system to remove impurities so that new hydration and
nutrients can keep the lymphatic system healthy and able to do it’s
job. Use water, antioxidant herbs and supplements to help your body
deal with the toxins.
Dry skin brushing is
taking a natural bristle brush and drawing it up over your
entire body to the base of your throat. It is similar to massage and
it’s a great way to exfoliate dead skin cells. It works best right
before a bath or shower.
Take a hot+cold shower
because it is so invigorating. What is a hot+cold shower you ask?
it’s a shower where you turn the water hot, then cold, then hot,
then cold. You continue switching the temperature of the water. It’s
extremely invigorating and the change in temperature stimulates your
lymphatic system to move as well as circulation by expanding and
contracting blood vessels. It’s a great practice that will leave
you feeling extremely rejuvenated.
Organic fruits are great
for stimulating the lymphatic system to drain. The key here is to eat
fruits raw (uncooked) and to eat them on an empty stomach so that the
acids and enzymes in the fruit have the best lymphatic draining and
stimulating effects. Lemon, lime and grapefruit work well. You can
also get these in therapeutic grade essential oils to add to your
water and drink throughout the day to stimulate lymphatic drainage
and overall digestive detoxification. Do not count artificial colored
sodas, sports drinks, and fruit juice cocktails with corn syrup as part of your fluid intake.
These are full of preservatives and chemicals that add to the load on
Organic green vegetables are
alkalizing to help neutralize acids in your body. They provide
chlorophyll that help purify the blood and lymph. Freshwater green
alga called chlorella in broken cell form, wheat grass or barley
green are other food sources of chlorophyll. There are herbal teas
that support the health of your lymph system like golden seal and
echinacea, singly or together, and astragalus.
You can get good fatty
acids for lubrication from raw nuts and seeds. Choose from walnuts,
almonds, hazelnuts, macadamias, Brazil nuts, flax seeds, sunflower
seeds and pumpkin seeds. You can include evening primrose oil, black currant seed or borage seed also.
You can apply ginger,
peppermint and rosemary essential oils topically on lymph nodes
throughout your body to stimulate drainage. Specifically on the back
of your neck is a great spot to apply these oils to get into the
skin, circulation and lymph nodes and allow them to go to work. Be sure to use pure essential oils.
Norman Cousins wrote
Anatomy of an Illness about laughter's healing properties. It
is an effective method for helping move the lymphatic system.
Laughing causes you to take deeper breaths which is
beneficial but it also stimulates your lungs, circulation and other
organs that create more harmony working with the lymphatic system.
You need to make it an effort to laugh at least a few times daily for
not only your lymphatic system but your heart, immunity, brain and
overall sense of well-being.
Essential oils Sept 2015
Essential oils have the ability to break down chemical bonds and loosen toxins in the body. I have seen them remove permanent marker from white boards.
Spearmint, Lemon, Ocotea and Stevia are all found in Slique Essence, a unique blend of citrus fruits, essential oils, and
herbs that work together to aid effective digestion and support healthy
weight management goals. Ocotea is an oil that aids the body's natural defense against injury and illness and contains purifying properties.
Don’t store your essential oils in clear bottles, near high heat, or
direct sunlight as they can cause the chemical constituents of the
essential oil to change.

is the astonishing
information. Eat good fats including saturated fats. Do not eat
hydrogenated or trans fats. Saturated fats do not raise cholesterol. It
is as simple
as looking at Eskimos who ate a high fat fish and blubber diet or
tropical populations where coconuts were a stable in their diet. They
had little heart disease. But these cultures did not include highly
refined foods. It is processed oils, grains and sugars that help mess
up our cardiovascular system. Heart disease was not a serious problem
in America until after 1920 as people left their fresh country foods
and moved to the city. Now their had hydrogenated margarine not

left out many countries and other variables. The desired results,
that saturated fats are bad, was extracted. The result of this
misinformation is that during the last 30 years in the United States
the amount of calories from dietary fat has fallen by ten percent
while weight problems have increased. Heart disease is still the
country’s number one cause of death. Yet the
American Heart Association still says" Eating foods that
contain saturated fats raises the level of cholesterol in your blood.
High levels of LDL cholesterol in your blood increase your risk of
heart disease and stroke."
More important than the
total cholesterol is your ratio of HDL to your total cholesterol.
This is often included on your blood work report. Simply divide the
total cholesterol by the HDL. An answer or ratio of 4.5 or less
shows you have less risk of heart disease.
Cholesterol is essential
for your body to function. It is so crucial to your health that your
liver produces cholesterol. We can not make the "essential fatty
acids" EPA or DHA found in fish oil but we DO make cholesterol.
If you and your family run high cholesterol numbers but do not have a
history of heart disease there is a good reason. There are more forms
of cholesterol than the well known HDL and LDL. They vary in size and
function, small dense cholesterol particles (VLDL) and large buoyant
ones. (watch this video). The
"bad" LDL is responsible for carrying Vitamin E through the
body. Individuals with LDL cholesterol below 70 have 15 times the
risk of developing cancer. Low cholesterol has been related to a a
less efficient immune system and an increased risk of infections. The
brain even makes cholesterol it is so vital to efficient brain
function. Lower total cholesterol levels have been related to
emotional problems from anxiety to more severely depressed and more
aggressive patients. Cholesterol lowering drugs reducing the
cholesterol in the brain may effect mood disorders, or lead to less
memory and cognitive skills along with increased in joint pain.
Your body is actually
trying to protect you from bleeding to death by laying down
cholesterol plaque. It is triggered by damaged or bleeding blood
vessels. This can be a lack of Vitamin C and bioflavinoids resulting
in scurvy or a low grade infection causing inflammation of the blood
vessels. Dr. Rath was a colleague of Dr. Linus Pauling. His research
on cancer helped him made the connection between nutrition,
cholesterol, and cardiovascular health.
have been used for healing in Ayurvedic medicine for over 4,000
years. Coconut oil is heat tolerant and can be used in baking, and
in frying foods. Coconut milk, coconut water, and the pulp are used
to treat a variety of health problems and nourish the body. There are
numerous claims that adding coconut oil to your diet increases
energy, balances hormone, ( all hormones are fats) and stimulates the
thyroid gland. The effect of coconut oil on cholesterol are linked
directly to this ability to stimulate thyroid function. Coconut oil
raises your metabolic rate, helping to release energy and promote
weight loss. Coconut oil (organic, virgin or unrefined) has been used to reverse mental
deterioration and improve mood. Researchers believe that coconut oil
is different from other saturated fats because it is composed of
medium-chain fatty acids (triglycerides).
So flavor your diet with
healthy fats. Buy fish (not farmed), meats (grass fed), butter
(organic), vegetable oils (cold pressed, organic), olive oil (extra
virgin), even minimally processed "leaf lard".
How do I choose the right Apple Cider Vinegar?
always choose an organic product when possible. Bragg's organic apple
cider vinegar has the mother. The mother looks like sediment in the
bottle and contains strands of enzymes, proteins and friendly
bacteria. It is given credit for supporting good health. Apple cider
vinegar is a low calorie product containing only 3 calories per
tablespoon. Vinegar has been shown to have health benefits for insulin
function and blood sugar levels:
- Improves insulin sensitivity
during a high carbohydrate meal by over 20% and significantly lowers
blood glucose and insulin responses.
- Reduces blood sugar by over 30% when eating 50 grams of white bread.
- 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bedtime can reduce fasting blood sugars by 4% .
- Numerous other studies, in both rats and humans, show that vinegar
can increase insulin sensitivity and significantly lower blood sugar
responses during meals
I do not suggest eating high carbohydrate meals or white bread just to test this out.
dilute apple cider vinegar in water or juice to prevent the acid
content from hurting the enamel on your teeth. Human studies suggest
that organic apple cider vinegar taken before a meal can increase
satiety and help you eat less. One teaspoon up to two tablespoons is
suggested. This could lead to reduced belly fat, waist circumference,
lower blood triglycerides and weight loss. A study on food habits from
Harvard showed that women who ate salad dressings with vinegar had a
reduced risk of heart disease. This a fermented product that does not
need refrigeration. You can keep it right on your counter so you can
remember to use it.
Vinegar is the reason condiments like opened catchup and mustard can be unrefrigerated for up to a month. Studies show that
it inhibits bacteria from growing and
spoiling the food.
Vinegar can be used doing household chores . It
helps to kill pathogens including bacteria. It has traditionally been
used for cleaning. It is great for cleaning window. It has been used
for disinfecting, treating nail fungus, warts, and ear infections. You
can apply diluted apple cider vinegar to the shin to help fight acne.
It is also used for hair conditioning. If you have head lice, soak the
hair with apple cider vinegar and let set for thirty minute to loosen
the nits(eggs) then rinse and comb.

essential oil has been shown to increase alertness and even enhance
work activity. I put a few drops on the bag in my vacuum cleaner. The
whole house smells better afterward. You can do yourself a double favor

Lemon essential oil has antiseptic, antimicrobial, and
bactericidal properties. Add a few drops to your products to help cut

improve people’s moods, maybe cleaning day will go a little easier. A
residual effect may be to help keep moths from destroying your clothes.

What is your preferred memory enhancing supplement?
I like NADH because of it's multiple functions in the body.
Comment: I increased my NADH from 10mg to 20mg recently.
I was surprised by my comprehension of the subtlety of story lines in watching a movie I had seen before. 6/24/15
NADH increases brain performance by providing a boost in cellular energy . It is is a metabolite of B3 (nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide , a natural co-enzyme with the ‘H’ standing for hydrogen.). It is being studied as an anti-aging and energy enhancing
substance. It is said to boost muscle stamina, and reduce
fatigue. In Europe it has been shown to provide successful treatment in degenerative medical
conditions like Parkinson's. Only the ENADA company produces the NADH used in the medical studies.
NADH supplementation can be in measured by increases of electrical brain activity. The
electrical brain activity increases are found in the parts of the brain used
for memory recall, mental clarity, concentration,
cognition, attention and co-ordination.
shown NADH is a natural antidepressant. Dr Birkmayer, (the doctor that
developed stabilized NADH in a sublingual oral tablet form,) stated that
“not all depressions are the same”. It was learned
that there are different types of physiological depression with varying
degrees of depressive symptoms. Clinical research testing has proven
that NADH has a positive impact on 93% of the people suffering
from depression. Depression
is caused by chemical imbalances in the brain. Clinical
studies have proven NADH stimulates the production of many different
brain neurotransmitters including serotonin, norepinephrine, and
testing has proved Parkinson's Disease depression is caused by brain
chemical imbalances. The depression is triggered when the brain cells
that produce dopamine die. Dopamine provides many valuable brain
function capabilities. It has a direct, positive effect on the
of concentration, drive, up-lifting mood, strength, and coordination.
Dopamine balances the body's appetite for food. Dopamine and its
interaction with serotonin improves the body's sleeping abilities.
Dopamine's has the ability to enhance the feelings of drive, mood,
strength, concentration, and coordination. Dopamine fights against the
feelings of depression, the lack of concentration, the intense feelings
of emptiness, guilt, and worthlessness.
shown in clinical
tests to inhibit cancer tissue growth by 92%. Cancer cells grew at 8%
with NADH supplementing compared to 100% growth without NADH. When
cancer growth is slowed, the human body can fight off
the cancer cells instead of being overcome by daily multiplication of
cancer cells. Dr
Birkmayer determined that to stop the
progression of cancerous cells the use of 40mg to 80mg of NADH daily was needed.
An Alzheimer’s disease clinical study showed that after 6 months of taking a
daily 10mg supplement of NADH, 100% of the Alzheimer’s patients
showed no evidence of cognitive deterioration and had
higher scores on the Mattis Dementia Rating Scale (mDRS) compared to the patients who didn’t take NADH. Dr
Birkmayer recommended an Alzheimer’s disease patient should take 40mg
(or more) of NADH daily to experience the stated improvements.
are many vitamins and minerals needed for brain nutrition. B12 is
essential. It plays an crucial role in the maintenance of the sheaths
and protect the nerves of the central and the peripheral nervous system,
assuring that proper nerve impulses are transmitted. It is best used
in a sublingual tablet or liquid. Choline should be found in your multi
vitamin/mineral. Choline is the precursor to the neurotransmitter
acetylcholine. Your brain is mostly fatty tissue and you need GOOD fats
like fish oil, coconut oil, fats from nuts and seeds like walnuts and
evening primrose and organic butter to keep it healthy. There are
studies that diets low in good fats could speed up the onset of
Alzheimer's. Manganese is needed in small amounts for metabolizing
proteins and fats,
healthy nerves and regulating levels of blood
sugar. Alzheimer's Disease is sometimes referred to as Diabetes Type 3
because your brain needs a controlled blood sugar level to operate
properly. Alpha Lipoic Acid is prescribed in Europe for diabetics. ( see

I do believe in a balanced program. Any
supplement will work better when you eat a nutritious diet with
(organic) fruits, vegetables, lean protein and chemical free water. Use
only high quality supplements from your local natural food store.

PQQ is that it has been shown to stimulate the growth of fresh mitochondria! Mitochondrial dysfunction is noted as a key marker of aging.
Why do they iodize salt?
If the body not have enough iodine to do its job the body can
cause the thyroid to work harder. This can result in an enlarged thyroid gland
(goiter) that usually becomes evident as a swollen neck. These were very common
in the Midwest region as settlers moved westward.
Melting glaciers had washed iodine and other minerals out of the soil and there
was no source of fresh sea food. By the early 1900's iodine
deficiency was so common in the US and Canadian midwest it became known as the goiter belt. The addition of iodine to table salt
improved public health. Now they tell us to limit our salt intake but they
forgot to tell us to take iodine.
a mineral therefore the body cannot manufacture it. Iodine must come

good sources. Most of the world’s iodine is found in the ocean, where it
concentrated by sea life, especially seaweed. You will find very little
other foods, unless it is added during processing as it is with iodized
salt. Another good way to add iodine to your diet is to use a few drops
of liquid Nascent Iodine in a glass of water first thing in the
morning. This form of consumable Iodine is useful for energy release.

The ovaries have the second largest concentration of iodine in the

needed to prevent fibrocystic breast disease, breast cancer, eye

emergencies to protect the thyroid gland against radioactive iodides.
Broda Barnes developed
an at home test for thyroid function. Shake down a basal
thermometer and place it at your bedside. The first thing in the morning

Some researchers believe the gold given to the Christ child was sandalwood oil. It has a gold color and was valued as gold. Sesquiterpenes have been found to deprogram misinformation in the body and carry oxygen to the cellular level. It can stimulate the release of melatonin necessary for a good sleep cycle. More properties attributed to sesquiterpenes are:
- soothing to inflamed tissue
- can produce profound effects on emotions and hormonal balance
- work on the liver
- are a gland stimulant
- increase oxygen around the pineal and pituitary gland
- have the ability to go beyond the Blood Brain Barrier (meaning they can cross the blood brain barrier increasing the oxygen to the brain)
The benefits of peppermint oil
include its ability to treat indigestion, respiratory problems,
headache, nausea, fever, stomach and bowel spasms, as well as for pain
relief due to the presence of menthol. It is considered one of oldest
medicines due to it's considerable history. The many health benefits of
peppermint and peppermint oil have been studied and proved in
scientific tests. Studies have shown that peppermint oil caps are useful
in treating IBS symptoms. Because the strong aromatic oils can cause
heartburn be sure confirm the tablets are 'enteric coated'. This means
that they have a special coating that allows them to reach the
intestines before they dissolve, rather than breaking down in the
stomach where they do less good.
Peppermint essential oil has been researched and shown to reduce appetite and curb cravings
— a key component to weight loss when uncontrollable cravings can
derail even the most determined individual. In a recent study by Dr.
Bryan Raudenbush at the Wheeling Jesuit University of West Virginia, it
was discovered that individuals who inhaled peppermint oil over 2 week
period consumed on average 3,000 less calories per week than
those who didn’t use the peppermint. Not only that, the peppermint
users reported a feeling of being satiated when inhaling the peppermint and didn’t feel deprived by their reduced caloric intake!
How can you use peppermint to support weight loss?
- Inhale therapeutic-quality peppermint oil before a meal — you’ll automatically feel more full, so you won’t eat as much!
- Inhale peppermint oil before exercise to increase your stamina.

Why are my allergies worse in the Spring?
This is true for many people. The trees actually start to pollinate before you can see the buds. Our bodies are under the stress
of making a seasonal transition from cold(er) weather. There is
irritation and inflammation as a result. There are many natural remedies
that can support the body through this stress. Vitamin C and MSM sulfur
are beneficial in supporting the mucus membranes. You can build up to a
tolerance level of Vitamin C by taking 500-1000mg hourly until you get a loose stool. Start backing off the Vitamin C when you see a bowel change.
There are many herbs that help the body release excess mucus. Marshmallow, stinging nettle, pleurisy root, hyssop, eyebright, mullein, fennel, elecampane, yarrow, ginger and fenugreek especially in combination with thyme.
These are available as teas, capsules or herbal extracts. Slippery elm
lozenges have been used by singers in smoky bars to protect their
throats. These and many other combinations available in natural food

A third natural choice is proteolytic (protein digesting) enzymes. They help to digest the pollen proteins entering the body. Enzyme
supplements have been
used for over 30 years to treat sinusitis. In 1966, Dr. S.J.
Taub, M.D., found that bromelain, an enzyme from pineapple that digests
proteins, made noticeable changes in patients suffering from sinusitis.
Bromelain helped to thin nasal mucus while reducing swelling and
redness of the sinus membranes. Another study in 1967 showed that
bromelain could help clear the mucus from sinusitis while it stimulated
immune function and reduce headaches. A study using a natural enzyme
blend of bromelain, chymotrypsin,
pancreatin, papain and trypsin plus the bioflavonoid rutin showed that
these enzymes were as effective as the anti-inflammatory prescription
used in the study at reducing headache and toothache pain from sinus
pressure. After 14 days, researchers concluded that the
treatments brought similar results but no there were side effects for

until recently, the only way to tell if your bones are brittle and
fragile was to visit your doctor for a bone density scan. Due to a
recent Yale study, you can do a simple 10-second test at home to check
for thinning bones.
the study, Yale researchers analyzed the facial wrinkles of a group of
participant’s. The researchers then scanned the skeletal bone mass and
density of the participants using medical equipment. When they looked at the results, they were amazed to discover an unmistakable
relationship between wrinkles and bone problems. The lead researcher
said "We found that deepening and worsening skin wrinkles are related to
lower bone density among the study participants."

I am using Armour Thyroid but I am not improving like I thought I would. What else can I do?
Here is a case of which came first the chicken or the egg. The thyroid is directly connected to adrenal function and sex hormone balance. All three need balanced nutrition to function effectively starting with over 70 trace minerals especially iodine. Most of the longest living cultures have a good source of trace minerals. It can be in the water from glaciers or food from the sea. Using a quality sea salt is easy way to get trace minerals. A craving for salt or salty foods is an indication of adrenal stress. The most common reasons for adrenal fatigue and dysfunction along with mineral deficiency include our Standard American Diet, stress, inflammation and an underactive thyroid. But what’s causing the inflammation and underactive thyroid. The poor SAD diet, bad digestion, over use of antacids and antibiotics. This can lead to Candida, an internal yeast overgrowth. There are over 170 different yeast toxins that are produced by yeast in their life cycle. Some of these toxins can block thyroid function. Candida overgrowth also causes Leaky Gut Syndrome. The toxins are leaked into the bloodstream and lead to allergies and a inflammatory state that can cause arthritis, chronic fatigue and pain. You can rebuild the body with probiotics, anti-Candida herbs, enzymes, homeopathic medicine and nutrition. There are at least seven macro minerals needed for thyroid function, they include iodine, selenium, magnesium, manganese, molybdenum, boron and zinc. Magnesium is essential for adrenal function also. Most Americans are deficit in magnesium.
When you set up a program (available at All Natural Health Corner) to reverse a yeast overgrowth, one of the common side effects is a Herxheimer reaction. This is a reaction to toxins released by the death of harmful organisms within the body. You may feel worse before you feel better. This can usually be avoided. with effective detoxification and elimination programs.

What do you consider the most important supplement?
the health of your digestive tract is essential. Probiotics or good
bacteria are the organisms that help maintain the proper pH or acid/
alkaline balance in your digestive tract. Probiotics are destroyed by
antibiotics and other medications. How often does a woman end up with a
yeast infection or a man with jock itch after taking a course of
antibiotics? Probiotics are also sensitive to stress. It is essential
to replace the good bacteria at stressful times. It is best to take them on
an empty stomach before eating unless they are enteric coated to protect
them from stomach acid. The most three important points in choosing a quality
probiotic supplement is making sure the bacteria count is high. Supplements are now being manufactured with counts in the billions. Also that the count is stated at time
of product expiration and not time of manufacture. The third point is are you seeing an improvement in bowel function. Healthy bowel function is two or more bowel movements a day. A balance of something in /something out.
Probiotics help regenerate the lining of your digestive tract. Just as
you are constantly sloughing off dead skin cells externally, so should
the lining of your intestines. These cells are part of the "fiber" in a
healthy stool. A healthy level of probiotics will help you to maintain
proper bowel function. The body is programed to balance "food in /
garbage out" so you should have two or three bowel movements a day to be
healthy. Eating good foods( non GMO and organic) should be your
main source of nutrition. Your digestive tract is the starting point
for you to absorb your vitamins, minerals, herbs and other nutrition. Probiotics
are all the big rage today as you watch the TV commercials. I have been
teaching about their use in it's many forms since 1980.
- Lactobacillus acidophilus.
This is the most common strain found in supplements. It is important
for maintaining the integrity of your intestinal walls so you can enjoy
maximum absorption of nutrients. I is needed for a healthy immune
- Lactobacillus fermentum. These
beneficial probiotic help neutralize some of the toxic products made
during digestion. It promotes a healthy balance of bacteria in the gut.
- Lactobacillus rhamnosus. The
"travel probiotic," form of beneficial bacteria has been found to be
extremely effective in reducing occurrences of traveler's diarrhea
known as Montezuma's revenge.
- Bifidobacteria longum.
This good bacteria helps to crowd out bad bacteria that cause
discomfort and helps to neutralize everyday toxins in the gut. It also
helps efficiently break down carbohydrates without producing excess gas.
- Bifidobacterium infantis,

September 2014 Essential oil-
santo (Bursera graveolens) comes from the same botanical family as
Frankincense, Myrrh and Copal.. It is found in South America
rather than the Middle East. Like Frankincense, Palo Santo is known as a
spiritual oil. Traditionally used by the Incas to purify and cleanse
the spirit from negative energies. Even its Spanish name reflects how
highly this oil is regarded: Palo Santo means "holy wood" or "sacred
wood." I would think highly about any oil with a reputation for keeping
away mosquitos and other flying insects.
Palo Santo has been used
for relieving inflammation found in common colds and flu, stress,
asthma, headaches, anxiety, depression. It provides an uplifting scent
that raises your vibration to
deal with emotional pain.
In Ecuador it is against the law to remove or cut down Palo Santo trees as they are protected. There are very few companies that are permitted to even touch the trees, more or less produce the essential oil.
Any of the oils that are from trees (Western Red Cedar, Spruce,
Cedarwood, Frankincense, etc) will provide stabilization, grounding and
security to our being, physically and emotionally.
the weather can change often so you need to protect yourself. Put Palo

protect yourself and keep you from breathing in all that bacterial.

It is interesting to me that the Latin name for Palo Santo is Bursera graveolens. Every person has hundreds of bursa found throughout the body. The
function of a bursa is to decrease friction between two surfaces that
move in different directions. The bursa is a slippery, fluid-containing
sac. Normally, the bursa is thin and contains a small amount of fluid. And the herb Graviola has been found in in vitro studies to have anti cancer potential.
Which supplement do you consider the most unique?
am astounded by Alpha Lipoic Acid. It can improve the function and
conduction of neurons. Doctors in Germany have been using Alpha Lipoic
Acid in high doses (600mg) for over forty years for the treatment of
Diabetic neuropathy. The symptoms include burning, pain, and numbness
in the feet, legs and arms. Diabetics need to be cautious when starting
to use Alpha Lipoic Acid because it can enhances the effect of insulin.
Diabetics should start with only 50mgs and increase gradually to a point that their pain is under control. They can take up to the
600mg while monitoring their blood sugar and insulin requirements. Alpha
lipoic Acid helps the body to normalize blood sugar by breaking down
carbohydrates and making energy for the other organs in the body.
Alpha Lipoic Acid was also found to reduce nerve pain from a herniated disc over a 60-day period. This is the most common cause of
sciatica. This is pain, tingling, or numbness produced by an irritation of the nerve roots that
lead to the sciatica nerve.
Lipoic Acid is sold in two forms. R Alpha Lipoic Acid is considered the
more active, available form of ALA. Alpha Lipoic Acid helps the body recycle vitamins C
and E. This may be why it has been used for diseases of the heart and
blood vessels like a disorder called cardiac autonomic neuropathy.
Lipoic Acid has also used for eye-related disorders, such as damage to
the retina, cataracts and glaucoma. An genetic eye disease called
Wilson’s disease prevents the liver from removing
extra copper. Too much copper is poisonous and can cause
organ damage. The liver
filters toxins and releases them into bile that carries the toxins and
wastes out of the body. Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), is recommended for
liver health regimens because it is known to protect – and even restore
the integrity of liver cells.
Lipoic Acid also increases the antioxidant glutathione that is a major
liver detox nutrient to remove all kinds of toxins. Dr. Berkson was a
Cleveland doctor who saved two patients who had eaten death cap
mushrooms with IV’s of Alpha Lipoic Acid in the
1970′s. Alpha Lipoic Acid is invaluable as an antidote for acute
chemical poisonings along with drugs, solvents, pesticides, radiation
ALA has also been used for memory loss, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease, HIV/AIDS and cancer.

Henna hair coloring does take longer but it is safer. Early hair dye formulations contained chemicals,
amines that were found to cause cancer in animals. In the mid- to late
1970s, however, manufacturers changed the components in dye products to
eliminate some of these chemicals. For the most part, the increases
were limited to women who began using
hair dye before 1980, although an increased risk of follicular lymphoma
was observed among women who began using dark-colored dyes after 1980.
Risk was greatest among those who had used permanent dyes for longer
durations (15 or more years).
Lead isn't the only toxin lurking in your lip stick.
A new study found that women who apply lipstick two to three times
daily can ingest a
significant amount of aluminum and cadmium —20 percent of the daily
amount that's considered
safe in drinking water. Lead was detected in in over 60% percent of the
lipsticks sampled including Burt's Bees tinted chapstick. It is not as
simple as just putting these chemicals on your lips but the fact that
they are ingested as you eat and drink or simply lick your lips.
